About the Opportunity
Spark Legal is inviting applications for the position of Senior Associate within its Transaction Advisory and General Corporate practice based in Mumbai. The role entails driving venture capital investments, private equity, mergers & acquisitions, cross-border FEMA compliance, and day-to-day corporate counseling for high-growth startups and established enterprises. The selected lawyer will take primary ownership of deal pipelines, lead transactional negotiations, liaise directly with counterparties, and mentor junior associates.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle complex transactional matters covering domestic and cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A).
- Structure, draft, negotiate, and close venture capital (VC) and private equity financing rounds.
- Advise clients on regulatory issues, including Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) guidelines and foreign direct investment regulations.
- Deliver comprehensive general corporate advisory to founders, startups, angel/VC investors, and growing enterprises.
- Independently lead transactions, run due diligence exercises, and interface directly with clients, founders, and opposing counsel.
- Supervise, review drafting, and provide mentorship to junior team members and paralegals.
Eligibility & Criteria
- Experience: 4–5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
- Mandatory Requirement: Candidates must demonstrate 4–5 years of dedicated transactional experience specifically in VC and M&A matters.
- Note: In-house legal counsel experience or general corporate advisory experience alone, while valuable, will not count toward the transactional PQE threshold for this position.
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid work model (Mumbai-based).
