The Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, established in 2005, has emerged as a leading center for legal education in Northeast India. The Department currently offers B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes. After a hiatus of 8 years, the Department is proud to announce the return of its flagship event: the 3rd North-Eastern Hill University National Moot Court Competition, 2026, aiming to engage law students in a comprehensive discourse on contemporary legal issues.
The 3rd NEHU National Moot Court Competition, 2026, is designed to foster academic excellence, coherent advocacy, and legal research skills. The competition features a hybrid model, with the Preliminary Rounds being conducted virtually and the advanced rounds (Octa-Finals onwards) taking place physically at the lush campus of NEHU in Shillong, Meghalaya.
Eligibility: The competition is open to bona fide students enrolled in a regular 3-Year or 5-Year LL.B. programme, or a Postgraduate Law Programme (LL.M.) from any institution recognized by the Bar Council of India (BCI).
Team Cap: Each recognized institution may nominate only one team. The competition is limited to a maximum of 36 teams on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Team Composition: Teams can consist of 2 or 3 members. In a 3-member team, 2 shall be Speakers and 1 shall be a Researcher. In a 2-member team, both shall be Speakers, and either may take the Researcher Test.
Commencement of Registration: July 28, 2026 (12:00 AM)
Clarification Deadline: August 25, 2026
Release of Clarifications: August 27, 2026
Registration Deadline: August 28, 2026 (11:59 PM)
Online Memorial Submission: September 15, 2026
Virtual Preliminary Rounds: September 29–30, 2026
Physical Octa & Quarter Rounds: October 29, 2026 (at NEHU, Shillong)
Semi-Finals, Finals & Valedictory Ceremony: October 30, 2026 (at NEHU, Shillong)
Winner: INR 50,000/-
Runners-Up: INR 25,000/-
Best Advocate: INR 11,000/-
Best Memorial: INR 11,000/-
Best Researcher: INR 8,000/-
Participation Benefits: All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation and a 10% Scholarship Code for all Lawctopus Law School courses.
The registration fee is ₹1,500/- per team, payable at the time of registration. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Teams qualifying for the Physical Rounds in Shillong will be provided with complimentary accommodation and meals for the duration of the competition.
