About the Competition
The 19th Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition is organized by the prestigious NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust and supported by the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. Renowned as one of India's premier constitutional law moots, this edition will be held offline at the NALSAR campus from October 2 to October 4, 2026.
Theme & Problem Statement
The moot proposition, drafted by the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, centers on nuanced and evolving issues of constitutional interpretation and institutional accountability, offering participants a platform to engage with live constitutional debates.
Eligibility & Team Composition
- Eligibility: The competition is open to students currently enrolled in LL.B. Degree Courses (3-year/5-year) or LL.M. Postgraduate Degree Courses.
- Institutional Limit: A maximum of 4 teams per institution are permitted to register. Cross-institutional teams are not allowed.
- Team Composition: Teams can comprise of 2 members (both speakers) or 3 members (2 speakers and 1 researcher). If a team has only 2 members, they must forgo the Researcher's Test.
Prizes & Awards (Total Prize Pool: ₹2.43 Lakhs)
- Winning Team: Trophy and ₹75,000 cash prize.
- Runners-Up Team: Trophy and ₹50,000 cash prize.
- Nani Palkhivala Award for Best Speaker: Trophy and ₹50,000 cash prize.
- Nani Palkhivala Award for Second-Best Speaker: Trophy and ₹20,000 cash prize.
- Nani Palkhivala Award for Best Speaker in Finals: Trophy and ₹10,000 cash prize.
- Best Memorial (Petitioner): Trophy and ₹10,000 cash prize.
- Best Memorial (Respondent): Trophy and ₹10,000 cash prize.
- Best Researcher: Trophy and ₹10,000 cash prize.
- Second-Best Researcher: Trophy and ₹7,500 cash prize.
- Certificates of participation or merit will be awarded to all teams.
