About the National Online Judgement Writing Competition 2026

The National Online Judgement Writing Competition 2026, organised by the School of Law, ITM University Gwalior, is a national-level online law competition aimed at developing judicial writing, legal reasoning, and judgment drafting skills among law students.

Unlike traditional moot court competitions and client counselling competitions, this Judgement Writing Competition enables participants to step into the role of a Judge and decide legal disputes by applying substantive and procedural laws, analysing evidence, interpreting precedents, and delivering reasoned judicial decisions.

The competition seeks to bridge the gap between classroom learning and judicial practice while preparing aspiring advocates and judicial service candidates for real-world legal decision-making.

Objectives

The National Online Judgement Writing Competition 2026 aims to:

• Enhance legal research and legal writing skills.

• Improve understanding of substantive and procedural laws.

• Encourage analytical thinking and independent legal reasoning.

• Familiarise participants with judicial methodology and court craft.

Competition Format

The National Online Judgement Writing Competition 2026 will be conducted entirely online in two stages.

Round I – Preliminary Judgment Writing

Participants will receive:

• One Civil Law proposition.

• One Criminal Law proposition.

Both propositions are mandatory.

Participants must prepare judgments based on:

• Facts provided.

• Applicable laws.

• Judicial precedents.

• Principles of evidence.

Date: 30 July 2026

Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Duration: 3 Hours

Round II – Grand Finale

• Top-performing participants from Round I will qualify.

• Finalists will receive a fresh proposition.

• A complete judgment must be prepared within the prescribed time.

Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Duration: 3 Hours

Eligibility

The National Online Judgement Writing Competition 2026 is open to:

• Students enrolled in 3-year LL.B. programmes.

• Students enrolled in 5-year integrated law programmes.

• Participants from any recognised university, law school, or institution in India.

Participation is strictly on an individual basis.

• Registration Fee: ₹300 per participant

Registration Process

Participants must:

1. Complete the online registration form.

2. Pay the registration fee through the official payment portal.

3. Receive a confirmation email.

4. Obtain a Unique Participation Code (UPC) for future correspondence and submissions.

Judgment Submission Guidelines

Participants must submit:

• One PDF copy.

• One Word (.doc/.docx) copy.

Files must be named using the allotted Unique Participation Code (UPC) and language.

Any submission revealing the participant's identity or institution will be disqualified.

• Font: Times New Roman (English) / Mangal (Hindi)

• Font Size: 12 (Main Text), 10 (Footnotes)

• Line Spacing: 1.5

• Alignment: Justified

• Citation Style: Bluebook (21st Edition)

• Margins: 1 inch on all sides

• Page Numbers: Bottom Centre

• Word Limit: 3,000–5,000 words

• Maximum Length: 15 pages (excluding cover page)

• File Formats: PDF and Word (.doc/.docx)

Judgment Structure

Participants should structure their judgments with:

• Court Title

• Case Number

• Parties

• Facts of the Case

• Issues for Determination

• Relevant Law

• Analysis and Findings

• Decision / Final Order

• Relief Granted

• Date and Signature (Participant Code only)

Anonymity Policy

Each participant will receive a Unique Participation Code (UPC).

Submissions must not disclose:

• Participant's Name

• Institution Name

• University Logo

• Initials

• Acknowledgements

• Any other identifying information

Violation of the anonymity policy will result in immediate disqualification.

Academic Integrity

To ensure fairness and originality, every submission will undergo:

• Plagiarism screening

• Expert evaluation

Participants must also submit a Declaration of Originality. Any plagiarism, copying, or unfair means will lead to immediate disqualification.
