Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University (RPNLU), Prayagraj is a premier National Law University dedicated to academic excellence, interdisciplinary legal education, and professional development. Located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, a city renowned for its rich academic and legal heritage, the University seeks to nurture future lawyers, judges, academicians, and policymakers through innovative teaching and research.

The competition is organised by the University's Debate and Discussion Club (DDC).

About the Competition

The 2nd International Debate Competition (IDC) 2026 is the second edition of the University's flagship international debating event.

Building upon the success of its inaugural edition, which attracted 28 teams from National Law Universities, public institutions, private universities, and international institutions, the competition aims to foster cross-cultural academic exchange and strengthen debating culture through intellectually engaging discussions.

The 2026 edition will be held on 26 September 2026 and will focus on an important issue of international law and global politics.

Debate Motion

"Economic Sanctions have Become Instruments of Geopolitical Coercion Rather Than Lawful Measures Under International Law."

Participants will debate the:

  • Legal validity of economic sanctions.

  • Ethical dimensions of sanctions.

  • Effectiveness of unilateral and multilateral sanctions.

  • Role of sanctions in contemporary international relations.

  • Practical implications of financial and geopolitical coercion.

Eligibility

The competition is open to:

  • Undergraduate students enrolled in Law programmes.

  • Universities in India and abroad.

Team composition:

  • One team per University

  • Two speakers per team

Registration Procedure

Participants must:

  1. Register through the official registration link provided by the organisers.

  2. Upload the payment receipt/screenshot along with the registration form.

  3. Registration will be confirmed upon successful submission.

Registration fee is non-refundable.
